A black and white side profile of a man with glasses, a beard, and wearing a striped shirt.

Mark Hunter MA

Born in Blackpool, Lancashire. Pretty quiet, and always drawing as a child, I decided to ignore careers advice (“you’ll never make any money in that game, bla, bla, bla…”) and go to art school at 16. I was fortunate that at that time, Blackpool Foundation course was run by some stellar creatives and teachers, and I was joined by a motley crew of like minded fantasists who, like me, became utterly absorbed in all it takes to be an artist.

Cut to now, via Newcasle Poly and Chelsea School of Art, and careers in Music, Furniture, Design, Animation and Film and I find myself going full circle and reconnecting with themes and motifs that have either been with me from the start, or have come out of the diversity and variety of experiences that have travelled with me on the life bus.

I can’t truly say what these works are ‘about’. They are a relationship, a dialogue, sometimes an argument, pushing paint, line and shape around, with the hope that we both end as good friends. There is clearly a developed language which I’d like to hope links me to the outcomes and makes them mine.

Here’s hoping you enjoy the work and come back soon to see the new characters develop…
